'station' (2020) is a poetic postcard from Nørrebro station in Copenhagen. The film explores the relationship between the public and the private and examines the mundane loneliness of catching the morning train a cold October morning.
Nørrebro station is a paradoxical place. A kind of non-place, where the individual remains anonymous and lonely, despite the station’s location in the cultural melting pot of Copenhagen. Here, people pass by, trains pass by, time passes by and the station becomes a container of routines and chores. The film aims to reflect a certain sense of loneliness I’ve been experiencing this year.
As the pandemic forced us all to stand still I have been walking around my neighborhood a lot, seeking connection in the eyes of others. In Denmark the cultural code is to keep to yourself, not speak to strangers and if you can – get a seat by yourself in the train. station is an observing documentation of this state of mind.
It draws inspiration from Daybreak Express (1953) as well as Marc Augés theory of 'Non-places'
